This is a time of profound loss for the family. My deepest and heartfelt condolences to Chobi Nini, Samira aunty, Sadia aunty and Shakera ! I'll always cherish my memories with the charismatic and larger than life, Alam Nana . The way he carried himself, spoke and dressed made him stand out in any setting. He was the life & soul of family reunions. In family dinners, Alam Nana would always talk to each and everyone, old or young ! I'll always remember his unique and warm greeting "kiray",which would translate roughly as "What's up?".He was always caring, perceptive and could strike just the right cord with everyone in the family! No mean feat in a tribe as large and as diversified as Jalalgushti ! Even though Alam Nana was the personification of success in his profession,he was so down to earth and had such a great sense of humour ! I remember how in awe I was of his and Chobi Nini's wooden floor in their Baridhara house. He was a trendsetter in his personal and professional domains. I also recall watching latest Hindi movies in VCR at Alam Nana and Chobi Nini's place in the early 80s and apart from the movie ,the highlight was the delicious food cooked by him and it was apparent that Alam Nana took great delight in cooking for and feeding guests ! Always composed and rational, Alam Nana gave the best of advice and guidance! He was a mentor to many and lifted many lives! Apart from generous gifts of clothes and Quality Street tins from his London trips, the children and teens of the family received something else which was even more valuable. He always mentored and counselled the teens of the family once they were were done with high school. When I decided that I would study in India, he gave me an overview of colleges there and recommended the best ones for the subject I would study. These days schools and universities go to such lengths for having experts in the campus to connect to the kids-and just imagine we got this eminent person's advice so easily and for free and he was happy and eager to guide us! Not only in career, but in other aspects of life also we were fortunate to have received his pearls of wisdom! He has had a big and meaningful impact on our lives! Alam Nana was a beautiful person who made beautiful moments for people around him. He used his talents and gifts to make the world around him better and his legacy continues with his three lovely daughters! May he rest in eternal peace in the gorgeous heavens !
