My tribute to a Legend, who passed away today at 6 am at the age of 84 from old age complication. My favourite Alam Nana (my mother’s Khalu), was by far the most charismatic person in our family. I have never met anyone in my life to who “4 generations” of people looked up to, in awe & admiration (his own generation, my parents’ generation, mine and my children’s generation). Always being the best dressed person in the room (or even in an aircraft as you can see in one of the pictures I have posted) and a great cook (even at the age of 84), he was a true man’s man. He took us to a Europe Trip to Zurich, Munich & Paris in 1989 when I was 7 years old and he was the person who I went to, for my tie knot during my wedding. Always heard stories from my parents from their struggling days in the UK in the 70’s, about how Alam Nana would arrive in a Bentley and take them to Harrods for shopping. As he used to visit his daughters in London quite a lot, just like my parents in their student days, I also had the privilege of visiting him regularly and having his cooked food whenever I felt like it, during my student days in London. He always encouraged me to think BIG. In his professional life, he was was an Actuary and is known to be one of the fathers of the insurance industry of Bangladesh. He received a Lifetime Award from the Prime Minister 3 months ago for his contribution towards the Insurance Sector. His list of professional achievements would be too long for me write but let’s just say, he was a Legend in his own right. May his soul rest in peace...
